How did these pictures get on my computer? They’re not mine?

Last night there was a storm and a power outage. This morning I restarted the computer and was looking through my pictures, and saw that there were weird landscape and travel photos I had never seen before. I thought nothing of it as I was passing through, assuming they were part of the “Sample Pictures” that came pre-loaded on the computer and had somehow got reloaded. Then I saw pictures of a family… at a pumpkin patch… in the snow…. sitting on a piano bench….It’s really weirding me out. How on earth did these get there? Hacked? Some sort of computer mixup during the power outage? I really have no idea!

Then earlier I hopped back on the computer and a message popped up that said something about shared IP addresses. Being the idiot that I am, I saw the title and x-ed out in a matter of seconds. Then wondered if maybe it had something to do with the weird pictures. Now I have no idea how to get the message back.

Usually I’d really think nothing of it… I don’t care that I have a few unwanted photos on my computer. But the fact that all MY pictures could now be on someone elses computer, that’s creeping me out.

Hmmm
Happened to me a few years ago. I was bored on the computer, and for some reason checked the recycling bin, and there was a bunch of pornography pictures in a folder.
It was a while ago, and i think there was a text file saying it came from creigslist.org
Except, back then, my parents had no idea about creigslist.
I really creeped me out, and so i emptied the recycling bin…

As far as i know, there is no “fix”. If you have WiFi internet (%85 of people do) It’s probably just a case of interference.

I really don’t know about this…

Someone used your computer. Either it was hacked and enterted into by someone through a connection or someone physically sat by your computer and got on it and put them there. Third reason could be that you accidently downloaded images off the web, it’s not likely but can happen.

You want to do two things:
Install security programs – download/install a firewall, and antivirus, and an anti spyware (search for all these on google as i don’t have time to fetch them here)

Set a password for the administrator account on the computer and the account you use. If you just use the administrator account then you only need to set a password for the administrator account. Most people think they are using the admin account but they are not, usually they are on a account with admin privledges, but this is different than actually using the full admin account. To get to the admin account you have to get into the operating system through safe mode or enbale it to show up on the welcome screen and login in through there. (search for how to set up a password for the admin account and password for all general account on google as i don’t have time to walk you through it)
